The world of storage can be confusing, but Caboodle has the smart solution
Whether you’re moving house, boxing up clothes and toys or just want to declutter, putting your things in storage is an easy way to make room and create a haven of calm. But how do you decide which storage solution is best for you? Ask these questions first…
How much time will self-storage take?
A recent report by the Self-Storage Association (SSA) revealed that a third of people travel more than 20 minutes to their unit. Once you’ve found your nearest, factor in how many return journeys you’ll also have to make. It’s sometimes hard to estimate that: will you have to set aside a weekend to pack, transport and unpack your storage or can you do it in a day?
Caboodle offers a different service: Storage by the box. Choose how many boxes you need and we’ll deliver them to your door. Once you’ve packed, simply book a convenient date and we’ll come and collect them and take them away to be safely stored in our state-of-the-art, specially built storage centres.
How much will I spend on transport?
At first glance, self-storage might seem like a convenient option if you’re on a budget, but you’ll probably need to factor in the cost of a van to transport everything, calculate how many trips you’ll need to make and decide if it’s better to hire it for the whole weekend rather than just one day. It always takes longer than you think! Don’t forget to add on the cost of petrol, plus the congestion charge if you’re in central London.
Store with Caboodle and you won’t need to hire a van, use your car or borrow someone else’s. We’ll deliver our strong and sturdy boxes to your door for free, you pack and photo catalogue them and then let us know when you want them collected.
I worry I won’t remember what’s in which box – what’s the best way to organise my storage?
If you’re packing your things ready for self-storage, take photos, print them out and then stick them on the boxes.
Or better still, let Caboodle’s photo cataloguing system do the organisation for you. Simply upload photos to your account page of what’s in each box and we’ll do the rest. You can check what’s stored where at any time and if you see something you need, just book a return date for the box it’s in and we’ll bring it right to you.
Can I pay for self-storage by the box, or do I need to pay for the whole room?
Many people overestimate the amount of space they need in a self-storage unit and you could end up paying for space you’re not using. Self-storage is usually a short-term solution, but think about whether you might want to store some items for longer than others. Removing them but still having the same size self-storage unit is a waste of money.
With Caboodle, storage is more flexible. If you need to store just one box, you can. If you want to get just one box back… you can. So, you’re only paying to store the boxes you actually need. That’s another advantage of storage by the box.
Will I need insurance for self-storage?
It’s important to remember that your home and contents insurance don’t always cover your possessions while they’re in storage. So, if you’re choosing self-storage, you’ll likely need to take out a policy to protect them.
At Caboodle, we include up to £500 free insurance per box with the option to top it up if you need even more. Plus we go the extra mile in protecting your belongings by providing water-resistant, sturdy boxes as standard.
Are my boxes living their best life?
You love your things. Here at Caboodle, we do too. Once we pick up your boxes, they’ll be treated like VIPs and brought to live their best life at our safe, secure, state-of-the-art storage centres until you need them again.
