How much time will self-storage take?
A recent report by the Self-Storage Association (SSA) revealed that a third of people travel more than 20 minutes to their unit. Once you’ve found your nearest, factor in how many return journeys you’ll also have to make. It’s sometimes hard to estimate that: will you have to set aside a weekend to pack, transport and unpack your storage or can you do it in a day?

It always takes longer than you think! Don’t forget to add on the cost of petrol, plus the congestion charge if you’re in central London.

If you’re packing your things ready for self-storage, take photos, print them out and then stick them on the boxes.
Or better still, let Caboodle’s photo cataloguing system do the organisation for you. Simply upload photos to your account page of what’s in each box and we’ll do the rest. You can check what’s stored where at any time and if you see something you need, just book a return date for the box it’s in and we’ll bring it right to you.
Can I pay for self-storage by the box, or do I need to pay for the whole room?
Many people overestimate the amount of space they need in a self-storage unit and you could end up paying for space you’re not using. Self-storage is usually a short-term solution, but think about whether you might want to store some items for longer than others. Removing them but still having the same size self-storage unit is a waste of money.

Will I need insurance for self-storage?
It’s important to remember that your home and contents insurance don’t always cover your possessions while they’re in storage. So, if you’re choosing self-storage, you’ll likely need to take out a policy to protect them.
