Pricing and Payment

We’ve tried to make our pricing as simple (and fair) as possible, with delivery and return benefits the longer you store. We hope that this page answers your questions, but just give us a call for any further information.

How much does Caboodle storage cost?

Storage: Monthly storage cost per box is from £6 and varies depending on how many boxes you store and for how long. The longer you store, the cheaper it is. You can get a quote on our website (click the Start Storing button) and complete your order from there.

If you’re going travelling or are moving house and have a whole bundle of boxes to store, we can offer you a tailored quote. Call or email us for more details.

Non-returned boxes: A £21 non-return charge will apply if you order a box, which we then deliver to you, but you subsequently do not request collection for storage within 28 days. The box is then yours to keep.

Spare boxes: If you over-order by one box, don’t worry, we’ll come collect it empty for free. Over-order by two or more and we’ll have to charge you the cost of repatriating your empties

Keeping a box: If you’d like to keep a box after you’ve used it, just tick the box to confirm this in your account page when arranging the return of your belongings. The cost to keep a box after you’ve stored with us is £9.75.

What happens to my payment if I want my belongings back?

We won’t hold your belongings hostage. If you need them back, just request your return and payment will stop. Our payments are on a monthly subscription basis, so you can stop storing with us whenever you like.

How much does it cost to have my belongings returned?

The standard return cost is £8 per box. This is included on the quote page on our website and also available in your account page. You can earn free returns the longer you store - call us to find out how.

Have a look at our full Terms of Service for more details.

What happens if I ask for my boxes to be returned halfway through a month?

You can ask for your boxes back at any time, but a full month’s storage will still be payable, whether it’s been a few days or a few weeks into the next billable month. However, if you want to make the most of the time, you can always choose to store something else instead.

Do you offer student discount?

Unfortunately not, sorry ☹️

What is the upfront payment?

You’ll be charged your first month’s storage at the point of order, and a rolling payment monthly from the first month’s anniversary of us receiving your boxes.

Can I pay by direct debit or standing order?

You can’t set up your own standing order or direct debit, but our simple, trusted, secure online payment system, Stripe, does everything for you.

How frequent is the payment?

Your payment will go out monthly on the date of your initial order. You’ll be charged on a monthly basis for the boxes that you have in storage, from when we collect your boxes.

Where can I see my payment history?

You can see your order history in the ‘My Orders’ section of your account page. Your payments will also appear on your bank statements as Caboodle.

Can I cancel my payments?

You can request to have your boxes returned and this will automatically cancel your payments. If you have any issues making a payment, give us a call and we’ll see what we can do.

What happens if I add another box at a later date? Will it have the same payment day?

Yep, which is far less confusing for us and you.

Even better, your new box is charged at the same rate of your existing boxes.

What happens if I can't make payment?

We’ll send the boys round. Just kidding. Call us and we’ll do our best to work something out.

Do my payments cover insurance?

Yes, with a value up to £500 for declared items. However, sorry to be a bore, but we must insist that you read our thrilling insurance T&Cs first.

Will there be any hidden additional charges?

Most of our customers will pay just the standard monthly storage fee per box. Free insurance up to £500 cover is included for each box.

The standard cost to retrieve each box is £8. The retrieval cost is a flat fee, no matter how many boxes you would like returned.

Can I add insurance?

£500 of insurance is included in your storage price. Importantly, only photo-catalogued items will be eligible under our policy.

Can I use my own insurance?

Some household contents insurance policies cover goods stored outside the home, so let your insurer know what you’re storing. Our policy covers your belongings too. A claim would be made on either policy and the insurers work together to cover any loss.

What happens when my saved card expires or card account is closed?

The saved card only stays working as long as the credit or debit card account stays open. Customers don't have to worry about being billed after they’ve cancelled their subscription or after they’ve closed a credit card account.

What happens if I don't store my belongings for the agreed period?

If you secure a low initial price and enjoy the benefit of our lower for longer pricing but subsequently remove your belongings within the agreed period, your final payment will be adjusted to the correct rate, and will incorporate a recalculated monthly amount (balancing charge and the return charges, all payable prior to the return being made.

Unfortunately, we cannot lower the monthly price of boxes with us in storage if you store with us for longer than originally anticipated. The cost will remain the same each month.

What is the Balancing Charge?

If you secure a low initial price and enjoy the benefit of our lower for longer pricing but subsequently request your belongings within the agreed period, your final payment will be adjusted to the correct rate, and will incorporate a recalculated monthly amount (a balancing charge) and the return charges, all payable prior to the return being made.

What happens if my credit card number was automatically changed?

Our payment processor Stripe works with card networks to keep your payment info up to date. This means that your replaced or expiring card will be automatically updated usually before you have even received the plastic card in the mail. This saves you from having to go into your profile and add a new payment method manually.

Here's a blog post by our friends at Stripe regarding automatic payment info updates.
